Correggio’s Great Altarpiece Returns after Restoration

Nearly four years of work have recovered the depth of the circa-1524 painting.

Correggio’s ‘Madonna of Saint Sebastian’ at Dresden’s Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister will return to view after a restoration lasting almost four years. Specialists say the treatment makes the spatial depth and colour relationships of the circa-1524 altarpiece easier to read. The painting will anchor the museum’s Correggio exhibition from 19 September 2026 to 10 January 2027.
