The Kunsthistorisches Museum is preparing to present the previously uncertain ‘Portrait of an Old Man’ as a painting by Gian Lorenzo Bernini from around 1670. It will anchor ‘Bernini: Painter and Sculptor’ at Palais Lobkowitz from 2 December 2026 to 4 April 2027. The museum’s late dating, based on stylistic and technical study, opens a fresh scholarly debate about the chronology of Bernini’s painting practice.
